Colorado National Monument

Hike, rock climb, horseback ride, bike or drive in the gorgeous Colorado National Monument preserve where red rock canyons, towering mesas, twisted juniper trees and impressive rock formations set against deep blue skies astound and inspire. You may also catch a glimpse of golden eagles, red-tailed hawks, bighorn sheep, mountain lions and coyotes while you’re here. Bike or drive Rim Rock Drive in the Monument for one of the most outstanding scenic rides in the country.

Grand Mesa National Forest

The Grand Mesa National Forest features the largest flattop mountain in the world, the Grand Mesa. Atop Grand Mesa, at 11,000 feet above sea level, lush groves of aspen, Engelmann spruce and Douglas fir are situated, as are 300 stream-fed lakes where you can fish for trout or just sit and admire the beauty high above the desert below. Hike the Crag Crest National Recreation Trail for a vigorous journey, or stroll the lakeside nature trails at Land of Lakes, Leon Lake and Cedar Mesa if you want to view the scenery more than you want to break a sweat.

Rimrock Adventures

Rimrock Adventures offers whitewater rafting and scenic floats on the Colorado, Gunnison and Dolores Rivers as well as horseback riding on wilderness trails and raft, kayak and canoe rentals. If you want to experience Colorado by choppy whitewater or horseback, Rimrock Adventures has the excursion you’re looking for.

Winter Sports

In the winter months, Powderhorn Resort is the place to be for superb skiing and snowboarding. Located on the Grand Mesa, Powderhorn offers a variety of ski slopes for beginners and experts alike, with three terrain parks built for lots of air time. The resort also offers lessons for kids and adults as well as bus service from Grand Junction and easy access to local dining and bars.
